Lesson Plan Title : Candy Corn Poetry

Age Range: Kindergarten through grade 2 (Early Elementary)

Overview and Purpose: Students can create poetry in the shape of a candy corn. The six word poem is a fun way for them to share what they like about Halloween.

Objective: The student will be able to write a poem about Halloween using six words.

Resources:

Cut out candy corn shapes or have strips of paper cut out so students can make their own

Activities:

Talk with students about what their favorite parts of Halloween are. Write their ideas on a piece of chart paper or the white board. Explain that they are going to make a candy corn poem about what they like best about Halloween. The top color of the candy will tell what the poem is about. The middle color will have two words and the bottom color will have three words that talk about the first word.
