Lesson Plan Title : Greeting Card Picture

Age Range: Grade 3 through grade 5

Overview and Purpose: This is a fun activity to do with students around the holidays or at the end of the year. They recycle old greeting cards by cutting out the pictures and making new pictures.

Objective: The student will be able to create a picture by both drawing and using pieces of greeting cards.

Resources:

Several recycled or old greeting cards

Various types of paper

Markers or crayons

Scissors

Glue and/or tape

Activities:

Spread the greeting cards out on a table and allow the students to look through them for ideas they can use to create a new picture. Let them take the cards they like back to their table, cut them up, and use them to make new pictures. If only part of an object is visible on a card, encourage students to still use it and to draw the missing part.

You can laminate the pictures and let the students use it as their work mat or take it home to display.

Wrap Up:

This lesson is a good one to use at Mother's Day. The students can make a placemat for their mom that shows all the reasons they love her. If it is laminated, it will make a great keepsake.
