Lesson Plan Title : 3-D Spelling

Age Range: Grade 3 through Grade 5 (Elementary Level)

Overview and Purpose : Students will bring their spelling words to life as they use their classmates' bodies to make letters and spell words.

Objective: The student will be able to work with other students to create words with their bodies.

Resources:

Digital camera

Activities:

Write each spelling word on a piece of paper and put it in a hat. Divide the class into pairs. Have one group draw a word from the hat. Give them a few moments to whisper together and then without talking they have to choose students to come up and help them spell the word. They cannot tell the students what letters they want them to make; they can only bend their classmates' bodies and place them where they want the students to stand or lie.

When the word is complete, take a picture of it. Have students guess what the word is. Post the pictures around the room to help students remember the words.

Closure:

Remind students to be sensitive to their classmates. Some will be eager to help, but others might not want to be touched or asked to stand in awkward positions.
