Lesson Plan Title : Sight Word Bingo

Age Range: Kindergarten through Grade 2 (Elementary Level)

Overview and Purpose : BINGO! This game is a fun way to help students review sight words. Students of all abilities can play this version since the words can be copied from the word wall and the cards with the words written on them are shown during the game.

Objective: The student will be able to match words written on the Bingo sheet with words shown by the teacher.

Resources:

Blank Bingo worksheets

Bingo markers

Index cards with sight words from the word wall written on them

Activities:

Have the students write words from the word wall onto the squares of their Bingo worksheet. Read on of the sight words and hold up an index card that has the word on it. Any student that has that word can cover it up. The first student to fill a row across, down, or diagonally calls out 'Bingo'. He should then read the words he covered up so you they can be checked against the words you used. If he has all of them correct, he is the winner.

Closure:

Two more advanced versions of the game are to read the sight word without showing the card to the students and to use pictures that represent the sight words. Students would have to cover the word that matched the picture, so this version would work best with sight words that are nouns and verbs.
