Lesson Plan Title : Adverb Charades

Age Range: Grade 3 through grade 5 (Elementary Level)

Overview and Purpose : It will be interesting to see how your students will interpret the verb/adverb cards they draw in the following activity.

Objective: The student will be able to

*act out a verb and its adverb

*guess the verb and the adverb being acted out.

Resources:

Cards with an adverb/verb phrase on each one

Activities:

Divide students into teams. Have a student from the first team come up and draw a card. He has 30 seconds to act out the phrase on his card while his team tries to guess it. If they guess both the adverb and the verb then they get a point. If they do not then the other team gets to guess. If they guess correctly, they get the point. Continue playing until all the students have had a turn.

Closure:

Students can also be encouraged to make up their own combinations. Have them do this before you begin playing the game, so students who take more time to think of a phrase are not caught unprepared.
