Lesson Plan Title : An Irish Blessing

Age Range: Grade 9 through grade 12 (High School)

Overview and Purpose: In this writing assignment, students study Irish blessings and then create their own. The blessings can then be framed and given as gifts.

Objective: The student will be able to write their own Irish blessing.

Resources:

Various Irish blessings

Computer access for each student

Activities:

Pass out copies of the Irish blessings to your students and discuss them as a class. Have them note common themes or styles of writing in the different blessings. Explain that they're going to write their own Irish blessing. They can use the computer to create backgrounds, borders, or other special designs around their blessing.

Wrap Up:

Students can print out their work and frame it. The prints can then be given as gifts to seniors in nursing homes or people in the hospital.
