Lesson Plan Title : Spring Similes

Age Range: Grade 3 through grade 5 (Elementary)

Overview and Purpose: This activity provides a fun way to practice using similes. Students incorporate them into a story about spring and then have their classmate try to find all of them.

Objective: The student will be able to create five similes about spring.

Resources:

None needed

Activities:

Talk with your students about what similes are. Give them some examples and then have them work with a partner to come up with some of their own. Have them practice by writing a story about spring that uses at least five similes. When all the students are finished, have them trade stories with a partner. Have the partner highlight or underline all the similes they find.

Wrap Up:

Students could also do this assignment by drawing pictures that represent similes and having their classmates try to figure out what they are.
