Lesson Plan Title : Painting with Bubble Wrap and other great objects

Age Range: Kindergarten through Grade 2 (Early Elementary)

Overview and Purpose: This is an introductory lesson into texture. Students are able to paint a variety of objects and transfer the pattern to a piece of paper. It's a fun, tactile lesson younger students will love.

Objective: The student will be able to create texture paintings using at least three materials.

Resources:

Tempera paint

Paper

Brushes

Tape

Bubble wrap taped to piece of wood or tag board

Burlap

Mini-straw bales (similar to what is used in the fall for decoration)

Pebbles

Mini-muffin pan

Activities:

Allow students to explore the different items they will be painting. Explain that each item will create a unique pattern on their paper. Have the students choose different items to paint. They should lay the item down on the table in front of them and paint it, take their paper and press it down on the paint. When the students lift it off, they can take it to the drying rack.

Wrap Up:

After the papers have dried, students can cut them up to make collages, frame them, or use them as a base for an additional picture. Brainstorm with students about other materials they would like to try painting.
