Objectives: | Each Student will refer to the 6 traits of writing to create their own imaginative 3 stanza poem concentrating on word choice. |
Materials: | What if.. book By Regina Williams, 6 trait stick notes, writing journals, juicy word hand outs, thesaures, dictionary |
Introduction: | Talk and share with partner what the relationship between a pebble and a rock is and then compare to adjectives and vivid adjectives. Site examples and share Read story: What if.. stopping to examin word choices' |
Development: | Share model poems by othere authors and student examples. |
Practice: | In groups of three students play a short What if game. ( thinking and pre-writing) Practice, model how to complete the stanza planning sheet on the overhead projecter. |
Accommodations: | use an extra support planning sheet- this gives more ques to the procedure. |
Checking For Understanding: | "Student editors" review poems for conventions, make comments, and suggestions before teacher review. |
Closure: | Publish final copies with illustations in the background. Post on buletin board and submit to WOW. |
Evaluation: | Rubric following the idea development and word choice. |
