Objectives: | Workshop Participants will be able to identify vocabulary strategies, text interaction strategies and interest strategies. |
Materials: | |
Introduction: | Party Game: Participants will be placed randomly into groups and given strips of paper with text that has yet to be presented. In a time-limited construct, they will have to make predictions about the text. Participants will report out. |
Development: | Picture Books with topics suitable for Secondary ELA Classrooms will be introduced. Books will be "talked aloud." Visual Aids Circulated for enrichment. Discussion on Main Idea, Compare/Contrast. |
Practice: | Participants will move back into their groups to complete character comparison 1 & 5W sheet. |
Accommodations: | Individual copies for students who need to work more independently; Use of ELMO for visual impaired students. Grouping of ESOL students and use of Native-Language Dictionary to English. |
Checking For Understanding: | Partcipants will create their own lesson plans focusing on topic strands: Main Idea, Compare Constrast, Text Interaction. |
