Goals:
 To demonstrate various strategies to aid student comprehension, motivation, interest and interaction with text.
Objectives:
 Workshop Participants will be able to identify vocabulary strategies, text interaction strategies and interest strategies.
Materials:
 
Introduction:
 Party Game: Participants will be placed randomly into groups and given strips of paper with text that has yet to be presented. In a time-limited construct, they will have to make predictions about the text. Participants will report out.
Development:
 Picture Books with topics suitable for Secondary ELA Classrooms will be introduced. Books will be "talked aloud." Visual Aids Circulated for enrichment. Discussion on Main Idea, Compare/Contrast.
Practice:
 Participants will move back into their groups to complete character comparison 1 & 5W sheet.
Accommodations:
 Individual copies for students who need to work more independently; Use of ELMO for visual impaired students. Grouping of ESOL students and use of Native-Language Dictionary to English.
Checking For Understanding:
 Partcipants will create their own lesson plans focusing on topic strands: Main Idea, Compare Constrast, Text Interaction.
