Content:
 Summary of learning in the fourth grade.
Goals:
 Students will realize that they have learned a great deal in the fourth grade.
Objectives:
 Students will write a five paragraph narrative essay with details summarizing the high points of their learning in the fourth grade.
Materials:
 paper and pencil
Introduction:
 Ask students about what they are most looking forward to over the summer. Focus conversation on the fact that they first have to end the school year. Praise students on their many accomplishments.
Development:
 Whole class helps to develop the beginning of a circle map reflective of the year's learning.
Practice:
 In tribes students create circle maps of the various topics of study and events that have taken place over the past year.
Accommodations:
 Resource students will add one detail to each topic instead of the three. Advanced students will use more elaborative language and more sophisticated transition words in their work.
Checking For Understanding:
 Peer sharing for feedback. Class sharing for assessment and discussion.
Closure:
 As students present add their topics to the class circle map. End discussion with praise for an excellent year of learning and one topic that each student would like to expand upon for next year.
Evaluation:
 Were all students able to complete their essay correctly? Use rubric.
