What Is Qualitative Assessment Research?

When you hear the word qualitative, what comes into your mind? Probably it is how dictionaries would define it as relating to the degree of excellence of something as measured against other similar things or simply measured by distinctive quality. How about research? Perhaps it is something that goes like the study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. What about assessment? Maybe it is the judgment about the value or quality of something. But what if we combine these terms, now what is qualitative research assessment?

Qualitative research assessment is a form of evaluating research quality and measurements of inputs, outputs and its impact in ways that apply bibliometric indicators, mapping and peer review. Today, it is gaining popularity as more researches are started while more and more people are getting inclined to the craft. This form of assessment points out and tries to understand studies on human behavior and the reasons for such.

A good assessment starts off with a good research per se. However, a good research, qualitative in nature at that, requires utilization of various ways to gather and collect data. These data can be collected through interviews, group discussion, reflection, observation and other scientific methods. The data will then be categorized and organized in order to prevent mixing and confusion. Further consultation and checking of entries will be made.

People who are experts in research can be called to give suggestions and pointers on how to process the data in totality. After it is finally done, assessment happens. While qualitative research is a broad topic. It would be nice to cite examples and a good example of a qualitative research assessment is student's perception on bullying that happens in the classroom. The subjects would likely have varying opinions on the matter. Some would say that bullying should not be tolerated in schools. Others, including those fond of doing it would say that it is fine since it is entertaining. This is the case for phenomenological research which is a type of qualitative research to begin with. Assessment happens when you as one intervene and try to find out why this is the case.

Research assessment does not involve assessing only once the data are in and conclusions are made; it can also refer to the actually scrutiny of the research method or type used and why it is used instead of the others. Anyhow, these assessments are like analyzers that points out both the strengths and weaknesses of a process. Employed since then in educational curriculums in the different parts of the globe, such not only provided ways to make student-guidance counselor encounter worthwhile because of the relevant findings they really provide, these researches and assessments also paved way for the upliftment and betterment of the quality and educational standard as we know it today. While majority of us believe that research is boring and tedious, we also need to ask ourselves what these works have made in our generation.

Because honestly speaking, a lot of what we enjoy today is the result of our forefathers' constant devotion and commitment to make life easy and comfortable.

Research, like problems, are a part of life. Assessments are the keys to its evolution. These two are important in such a way that through them, more and more are coming like blessings unraveling and rain pouring. Discoveries for example resulted from dynamic observations and clever researches conducted by our predecessors and these could not have happened if they were not assessed first. So we all should get tired of the processes of learning and assessing and researching.
