Introduction: |
You are about to embark upon a journey through time. You will
be traveling back in time to the 1770s. The new nation is at
war with England. You get to be an eyewitness to these great
events and report them to your local paper! |
Task: |
You and you partner will create a newspaper using Microsoft Publisher. Your newspaper will contain the following: 2 major articles
1 biography of a political figure
1 editorial
2 letters to the editor (Loyalist and Patriot)
1 original political cartoon
3-5 pictures
Process: |
Decide what your headline article will be. The date for this article will be the day after the date of the event.
Check a timeline on the Revolutionary War to see what other events occurred before your major event.
Decide what your second article will be. On the timeline, this one should come before your headline article event.
Now you and your partner must decide who will be responsible for writing each section of your newspaper. Each of you must write one of the major articles. One of you will write the editorial and the other will write the biography. Both of you will write a letter to the editor.
Begin your research.

Evaluation: |
The following rubric will be used to determine your grade. You and your partner should each print a copy and keep the copies in your folder. It will be helpful to check off items as you complete them and do a self evaluation as you go. Since one of you will write the headline article and the other will write the 2nd article, each of you will be responsible for a maximum of 100 points.

Conclusion: |
By now you have completed your journey back through time. You have learned about people and events that shaped our history, and you have accurately reported the events of the time period. The newspapers you created are a reflection of what it must have been like to live when our country first began. As you continue your study of American history and learn about the men who shaped the Constitution and added the Bill of Rights, you will have a better understanding of that document and why our forefathers felt it necessary to guarantee all Americans the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
