Lesson Plan Title : Elf Comic Strip

Age Range: Grade 3 through grade 5 (Elementary)

Overview and Purpose: Students will have a fun way to practice writing dialogue in this lesson. They will create a comic strip based on two elves who are working in the toy factory.

Objective: The student will be able to use dialogue correctly when writing a comic strip about two elves.

Resources:

Blank paper

Colored pencils

Activities:

Explain to your students that they are going to create a comic strip about two elves that are working in the toy factory and having a conversation. Review the rules for writing dialogue and then let them work on their comics. If students are struggling to come up with ideas suggest some starters. The elves could be having a debate about which toy is better, who broke the machine, or who gets to load Santa's sleigh.

Have the students share their comics with the class if they would like.

Wrap Up:

The comics could also be scanned and put into a slideshow that could be set as the screensaver on the computer. Encourage students to be supportive of each other's ideas and remind them that everyone has different talents and everyone wants to have their work appreciated.
