Lesson Plan Title : Author Study

Age Range: Grade 9 through Grade 12 (High School Level)

Overview and Purpose : In this activity, students research an author of their choosing. They create a detailed report about their author's life and his work. Students are encouraged to use a variety of mediums in their reports.

Objective: The student will be able to create a comprehensive report on an author that includes details of his early years, family life, and professional accomplishments.

Resources:

Internet access for each student

Activities:

Have each student choose an author they would like to know more about (or assign each student an author.) Have them do a comprehensive study on the author and his works. Have the students include the following information in their reports: the author's personal life (including his early years), books he's written, and any awards or other accomplishments he has received. Have the students present their reports to the class.

Closure:

Encourage students to use different types of media in their reports. They can use videos, Power point presentations, or music to enhance their report.
