Lesson Plan Title : Genre Search
Age Range: Grade 6 through Grade 8 (Middle School Level)
Overview and Purpose : In this activity students complete an online scavenger hunt to learn about different genres.
Objective: The student will be able to use the internet to find books in a specific genre.
Resources:
Internet access for each group of students
Teacher created worksheet
Activities:
Define 'genre' for your students. Explain that they are going to use the internet to help them categorize books and find other books that match different genres. Have students work in trios to complete the worksheet.
Sample worksheet questions:

What genre is Huckleberry Finn? Define that genre: Name five other books and the website you found them on that are also in that genre. List three other genres that are not named on this worksheet and five books for each one. |
Closure:
You can have each student pick one of the stories from the list to read and present a book report on it.
