Lesson Plan Title : Spring Weather Trends

Age Range: Grade 9 through grade 12 (High School)

Overview and Purpose: Having Easter egg hunts outside is a tradition for a lot of families. In this activity, students research the weather to find out if it was possible for the egg hunts to be held outside over the last 20 years. They are then asked to make a prediction about where the egg hunts will be held for the next three years.

Objective: The student will be able to research and chart the weather at Easter time for the past 20 years.

Resources:

Internet access for each student

Activities:

Have students work together or individually to research the temperatures in their area at Easter for the past 20 years. Have them create a graph or chart showing how many times it was comfortable or possible to have Easter egg hunts outside and how many times the hunts needed to be held inside. Based on the information they have, ask your students to project whether the egg hunts will be able to be held outside for the next three years.

Wrap Up:

This project could be as simple or as detailed as you like. Students could just report on whether the egg hunts were held indoors or outdoors due to the weather or they can be more detailed and break the charts and graphs down into types of weather and average temperature ranges.
