Lesson Plan Title : Working Out

Age Range: Grade 9 through Grade 12 (High School)

Overview and Purpose: In this lesson students will study the benefits of being physically active. They will explore what that term means to them and find at least three ways they can be active.

Objective: The student will be able to name three ways he can be physically active.

Resources:

Internet access for each student

Activities:

Have your students brainstorm ways to be physically active. Encourage them to consider any activity where you are moving. These can include walking, going up and down stairs, and housecleaning. Write their ideas on the white board. Have each student choose at least ten activities they think they would enjoy. Give them time to look up each activity, determine how many calories it burns in 30 minutes, and graph the results using a bar graph.

Wrap Up:

When the students are finished researching, have them write a paragraph or two about which three activities they think they would do the most often. Encourage them to develop a plan for doing them at least twice a week.
