Age Range: Grade 6 through Grade 8 (Middle School)

Objective: The student will be able to describe how symmetrical the body is.

Resources:

Natural pictures of people - magazine pictures will not work because they have been re-touched

Activities:

Have students work in pairs or individually to determine how symmetrical the human body is. Students know that there two of many body parts, but do they know that there are almost always slight differences between the two? Have the students compare different parts of pictures and note any differences. Come back together and talk about what the students saw.

Wrap Up:

For homework, have the students look at their own face and write in their journal about what differences in symmetry they see.
