Lesson Plan Title : Self esteem

Age Range: Grade 6 through Grade 8 (Middle School)

Overview and Purpose: Students this age are often able to find many things wrong with themselves. This lesson challenges them to focus on the positive aspects of who they are.

Objective: The student will be able to create a collage that tells about them as a person.

Resources:

Magazines

Paper

Glue

Markers/crayons/colored pencils

Activities:

Talk with students about how important it is to have a healthy view of oneself. Explain that at their age the view can be challenging. Ask students to help you brainstorm ideas about why that is. Let them know that today's activity will help them meet that challenge.

Pass out the paper, glue, and magazines. Have students create a collage that describes who they are and the dreams they have for the future. Encourage them to go beyond the traditional ideas of looks and hobbies. Have them try to express the personality traits that they like in themselves.

Wrap Up:

This age can be a very difficult time for some students. Be prepared to help students brainstorm different traits that they like and can use in their collage.
