The Teenager's Experience

Introduction:
From 1965 to 1975 the Vietnam Conflict raged in Southeast Asia. 58,000 American soldiers would not make it back home. Back in the United States society was divided into Pro-War and Anti-War. Families, friends were split over who to support. The issues that faced the U.S. teenager were many. What I want this Webquest to accomplish is for my students to analyze, appreciate, and comprehend the social, political, and cultural issues facing a teenager during the Vietnam Conflict.

Questions:
1.Explain two reasons the U.S. became involved in the Vietnam Conflict.
2.What U.S. presidents served during this conflict?
3.Explain who the Vietcong were and why are they important to this conflict?

Evaluation:
Each group will have 20-30 minutes to explain the social, political, and cultural issues facing the average U.S. teenager during the Vietnam Conflict. Each group can use a powerpoint, video, debate, or any other method of delivering their information. The class will be free to ask questions at the end of the presentation. I will have the class evaluate you presentation usin the following rubric. I will review each evaluation for the final grade.
Conclusion:
The average U.S. teenager experienced a vastly changing country during the Vietnam Conflict. From the counterculture, druguse, and Woodstock, the teenagers were forced to make difficult decisions. Some of the these decisions afected them for the rest of their lives. Some teenagers never saw siblings or relatives again. Hopefully this assighment helped yourealize what a kid your age or slightly older experienced during this time period.
