Great Techniques To Help Others Learn English

In learning anything, one of the most important things to take into consideration is interest. One has to have interest in what he is doing so that it does not become hard work. In many Asian countries, being able to speak and write the English language is being given a huge importance. For example in South Korea, incorporated in the curriculum in grade schoolers now is the study of Enlgish. Children are also placed in tutorial services or schools to learn the language after school. Almost all companies are now requiring their employees to pass English proficiency exams to be able to get promoted. Many nationalities go to live for a period of time in English speaking countries so they can learn and get used to speaking English conversationally. Schools in countries like Taiwan, Japan and the like import Americans or British people to teach in their schools.

In learning English as one's second language, some of these tips might be helpful. One is to know first the purpose why a person wants to learn the language. Is it to be able to converse fluently? Is it to be able to pass a proficiency exam? Is it to be able to communicate to other people when abroad? Answering this question is important so that the teacher knows what approach to use or so that the person wishing to learn would also know the path to take.

If it is to be able to converse fluently, much as rules of grammar and method of spelling is still important, this should not be the focus of the lesson. The focus must be on being able to create phrases and sentences that convey what is meant to be said. Spelling should be a minor concern if this is the goal. Grammar is also important but this should not be the primary interest.

Great techniques to help others learn English should start from knowing the main purpose why a person wishes to learn the language. If it is to pass a proficiency test, like IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, PET, etc., the rules of grammar, spelling, comprehension, and the like must be studied and mastered. These exams could be quite challenging as they need to be leveled with the international standard of speaking English. One may go online for many practice exercises to prepare for these types of exams. But this are only practice exercises which means there is already a presumption that the person answering these exercises are already learned in the Language. These sites would not be helpful for people who have yet a lot to learn. The best thing to do is to enroll in online classes or in English schools. The English language could be very tricky. The rules of grammar, even the spelling, comprehending statements or stories creating a sentence or a paragraph from scratch, spotting what is wrong in a sentence is not easy that one can simply rely on the internet for it. Besides, it can not be discounted that the internet is not 100% reliable because anyone can simply set up a website or make remarks online and he would not be apprehended if it is wrong information.

When the purpose of studying English is to pass a test, enroll and be taught by an expert. But when the goal is to be able to go abroad and communicate with other people who are English speakers or people for which English is also just a second language, the requirement is less. Some could even survive in using dictionaries that translate their language to English. The technique for this is to learn first survival statements. For example, learn all English words pertaining to directions. North, South, East, West, turn left, turn right, etc. Learn the questions needed when trying to get something or to reach for something.
