5. Jokes You Can Tell In Class-
"Student Essays"
As an English professor, my father would often write little
notes on student essays. Often he worked late, and as the
hours passed, his handwriting deteriorated. One day a student
came to him after class with an essay that had been returned.
"Mr. McDonald," he said, "I can't make out this comment you
wrote on my paper." My father took the paper and, after
studying it, sheepishly replied, "It says that you should
write more legibly."

9. Ask Our Experts-
*************************************************************
A question from Anonymous:
"Do you know any easy grade programs that will be able to do
progress reports? I teach second grade and do not want to
use something really complicated, but would like to print out
grades."
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
Most teachers find Orbis's Easy Grade Pro to be simple to use.
The new version allows you to track and graph student
progress.
You can learn more about this program here:
http://www.orbissoft.com/

A question from Mother of 10 and grandmother of 4:
"I need to find a way to keep an organized record of the work
done daily with a 34 months old child with multiplle severe
disabilities. A few of his medical problems included missing
his left eye, hypotonic in all his body but especially his
right side, seizures that occasionally cause him to loose
where he is, malformation of the mouth and low muscles tone
through his face and the right side of his tongue etc. I am
his grandmother and care for him everyday. He attends for
now early intervention 5 hours a week but I reenforce all
they teach me so he can function. I need a method to keep
track of all the therapies I do, Speech, articulation,
physical, occupational and cognitive. He CAN learn and needs
the constant help. He is already walking with a walker,
making parts of about 10 words, though some sounds I can't
get yet. His needs are so great I really need suggestions on
how to keep track of all I do each day, How many times a day,
his success, What prompts I gave him etc. so I can remember
how long I ve tried one method before I give up and try a new
way.
If any one knows of how to keep all this information that can
be readily accessed for future decisions, I would be grateful."
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
You certainly should be commended for the dedication that you
have in providing care for your grandchildren.
A way to keep track of daily activities is using a spread
sheet program that lists the activities that you engage in
each day. Spread sheet programs also allow you to create
charts that show progress over time by presenting visual
representations.
A program that you can use is Microsoft Excel. We offer a
tutorial on the benefits of Excel at:
http://www.teach-nology.com/tutorials/excel/
If you do not have access to Excel, then use your word
processing program's charting or table functions that allow
you to create sections to track activities on a daily basis.
If all else fails, a simple daily calendar always comes in
handy. We offer a free calendar at:
http://www.localendar.com/cobrand/teachnology
Just sign up and get all that for free. We hope this helps.
Good luck!
*************************************************************
A question from David:
"Is there a way to connect a turntable (used for playing
vinyl records of the past) to a computer?"
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
You'll find a very good summary on how to do this here:

10. "Our Latest Idea That Worked!"
"A Fun Way of Getting the Class in Order Before Dismissal"
By: Lisa Morris, 7th Grade Teacher: Woodbury Middle School
"Before lunchtime, I announce to the class that the "quietest,
cleanest, straightest row or group will be dismissed first.
To add a bit of interest, I also add another adjective, such
as weirdest, happiest, most sleepy, most professional-looking,
etc. The possibilities are endless. I have even used new
vocabulary terms as well, such as "most indignant," and "most
discreet." The kids soon start submitting ideas to use. It is
amazing how the room is straightened up in such a short amount
of time!"
