5. Jokes You Can Tell In Class-
"The Psychiatrist's Test"
A mother was worried that her three-year-old son was
unusually precocious, and took him to a psychiatrist.
"Right," said the shrink, "We'll just try a few simple tests.
" To the boy, he said "Say a few words - anything that comes
into your mind."
The boy turned to his mother and asked, "Does he want
logically constructed sentences or just a few random and
purely isolated words?"

ball-and-sticks and CPK models. ViewMol3D can draw molecules
models from output of several quantum chemistry programs:
Alchemy MOL files, MOPAC/AMPAC OUT files, GAMESS(US)/PC GAMESS
OUT files, Gaussian 9x OUT files. There are Windows and Linux

*Word Square Builder*
"Word Square Builder is for building word search puzzles where
interlocking words are hidden in a grid of letters. It allows
the user to enter, save and reuse word lists, control the size
and shape of the puzzle, flow the puzzle around irregularly
shaped pictures, control the font and letter spacing, select
the characters that may appear in the puzzle, select the
directions in which words are permitted to run, print puzzles
and puzzle solutions, and export puzzles as graphics files for
use in DTP or on the web.
"Special features of the program include: the Mask Editor
which allows the user to draw shapes into which the puzzle
will fit, and Auto Mask which helps create masks to flow the
puzzle around the outside of pictures. With QuickTime 4 the
program also supports the export of puzzles (including embedded
graphics) in many different formats suitable for the web or DTP."

9. Ask Our Experts-
*************************************************************
A question from Anonymous:
"I am a elementary level teacher in the gifted and talented
program. We are looking for ideas on how to show student
growth (for our evaluative portfolios)in areas like
creativity, critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and
problem solving."
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
One way to show student achievement over time is to use a
rubric that assesses progress according to the criteria that
you set for your students. We have a rubric generator that
can assist you in designing a tool that can provide information
relative to what you wish to evaluate. We also have a
tutorial on 'rubrics' and how they can be used. The rubric
generator can be found at:
http://teachers.teach-nology.com/web_tools/rubrics/
(General Rubric Generator) and the tutorial can be found at:
http://www.teach-nology.com/tutorials/teaching/rubrics/
on't forget to save your work once you design the rubric!
Good luck!
*************************************************************
A question from Anonymous:
"I have been assigned the Enrichment program coordinator
position for our 5 and 6 grade enrichment students. We have
a pull-out program where I see the students one 40 minute
period per week. Can anyone help me with some suggestions
for projects we can work on?"
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
WIf you are providing "enrichment" experiences for students,
the experiences need to be opportunities to learn in extended
ways or ways that present challenge to students beyond
'normal' classroom instruction. Project based learning using
an inquiry approach is one among many ways to enrich the
learning experience. Another way is using technology such
as "web quests" to challenge students with teacher generated
assignments that extend their learning experience beyond
classroom walls. Web quests will also allow students to work
independently and will allow students to complete assignments
from home or from wherever they can access the World Wide Web
(at a local library, etc.). As a 'technology-based' project,
you can have students create their own web pages on a given
topic or theme. Information on these strategies can be found
at:

http://www.teach-nology.com/currenttrends/inquiry/

http://teachers.teach-nology.com/web_tools/
Good Luck!

A question from Anonymous:
"How can I introduce new vocabulary to students?"
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:

10. "Our Latest Idea That Worked!"
"Beat The Machine Math!"
By: Sean Redwodar, Math Teacher
"This game really works for just about any subject. I tell my
students to buy a voice tape recorder at the begging of the
year. I then have students take a stack of flashcards and read
them into the recorder. There should be a pause between the
problem and the answer of about 5-7 seconds.
As an example, "3 x 2 = (5 sec. pause) 6."
When students go through all the cards, they should then play
back the tape and compete against the tape recorder. If they
get the answer right, they get one point. If they get it
wrong, the recorder gets a point. The object of the game is
to shut out the tape recorder."
