My face in the mirror

9. Ask Our Experts-
*************************************************************
A question from Anonymous:
"What is the best teaching tools for phonics, and what would
be the best method to teach an 8th grader that has had
diagnostic testing, and the following was the results low
scores in Phonics Word/Attack, spelling, visual perception,
penmanship, grammar, riting skillls, vocabulary, reading
comprehension, reading rate, study skills."

A question from Anonymous:
"What do you have about how to schedule the lab and make it
fair to all staff members?"
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
We totally understand your problem. Thirty computers, one
lab, and one hundred staff members who would like to use it
all at the same time!
We have worked with a large number of teachers who all seem
to tackle this problem in different ways. We have to say the
most successful program we have seen involved total random
selection. Each staff member is randomly given a day to use
the room for their needs. In a ten-month schedule, each staff
member will get to use the lab 2-3 days.
On their day, a staff member is in charge of the room and can
trade days with other staff members. This is a vital point,
just in case an illness or chance situation comes up.
We would also recommend that you leave 1-2 days per month for
the lab to be totally open. Just in case the room is needed
for administrative purposes or school functions.
*************************************************************
A question from Anonymous:
"What is the definition of education?"
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
There have been many attempts to define "education." The best
'definitions' have been offered by the scholars in their
attempt to provide a 'philosophy of education.' These
definitions can be found at:
http://www.teach-nology.com/teachers/methods/philosophy/
and clicking on "Five Educational Philosophies."

10. "Our Latest Idea That Worked!"
"Postcard Learning"
By: Steve Namisien: Busen, North Dakota
"For years, I have been using postcards as a learning tool.
In the past I just used them in certain units, but now I use
them to introduce just about every social studies unit I do.
I found a few Internet postcard exchanges with other
classrooms throughout the world as well. This summer I sent
about forty different postcards to myself and I even use
electronic postcards too.
I have a postcard display in my room and once we receive a
postcard, students do research to learn about person who wrote
it and their homeland. I always write culture specific words
and phrases in the messages that are sent. Students have a
great deal of fun uncovering what is being communicated.
I find using postcards to be a vital part to my classroom. I
would encourage other teachers to give it a try."
