Jokes You Can Tell In Class- "Military Computer" Officers at a military installation were being lectured about a new computer. The training officer said the computer was able to withstand nuclear and chemical attacks. Suddenly, he saw that one of the officers had a cup of coffee and yelled, "There will be no eating or drinking in this room! You'll have to get rid of that coffee." The officer said meekly, "Sure, but why?" "Because a coffee spill could ruin the keyboard." ------------------------------------------------------------- Like Jokes?? Ask Our Experts- ************************************************************* A question from Deanna: "I teach 6th grade Art and I need a lesson plan that teaches one of the Elements of Design - Space. I'm having such a hard time coming up with a new way to teach "Space" If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Space is a difficult concept to teach. Try searching for lessons in the mathematics section (geometry) relative to "space," or within science discovery. This would be a good way to use interdisplinary instruction. Our lesson plan center is at: http://www.teach-nology.com/teachers/lesson_plans/ Also, here's a site that may help: http://www.usask.ca/education/coursework/skaalid/theory/cgdt/space.htm ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "Are there any things available for student teachers to help with them in the classroom they are assigned to. Also, are there any suggested activities for the supervising teacher?" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: There are many resources that TeAch-nology.com has to offer. Included are a multitude of lesson plans, free worksheets, ideas that teachers have shared, an entire subject thematic section, teaching tips, and teacher tools. We have found that student teachers have utilized the many resources available. Supervising teachers can use the teacher tools to assign student teachers tasks that make teaching more effective. For example, a valuable resource is the rubric generator found at http://teachers.teach-nology.com/web_tools/rubrics/ All these and much more can be accessed from our homepage at www.teach-nology.com. Good luck! ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "I am a application developer and want to make a career change as i never get to spend time with my family. Currently, I have a Bachelors in Computer Science and was thinking of becoming a teacher so I can get summer vacation off to be with my family. I was thinking of doing masters of education but want to know how satisfying is this job and what is the job market for masters of education? Another thing I like to know what is the job market for K-12 Teachers and Special Education teacher. I am not from USA so I have no idea how the education system works over here. Please help. ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Your best chance of getting a job in education is to apply for a master's program that leads to certification in both regular and special education. Since there are so many pupils who require 'special assistance' with learning along with the movement toward 'inclusion,' it is wise to have both certifications. You will be much more marketable in this way. It would also be a good idea to check with state regulations or country regulations that indicate what you will need to teach in a K-12 setting. Links for the Unites States that can help with state regulations include: http://www.teach-nology.com/teachers/certification/ Good luck! ============================================================= 10. "Our Latest Idea That Worked!" "Helping Children Cope with Tragedy" By: Jeff Heinz: New York, NY -Listen to children's concerns without interrupting. -In a patient and reasonable tone, reassure them that they are safe. -Explain what happened and try not to disguise or avoid it. -Note that this is something done by some bad people, and that most people can be trusted. -Emphasize that the victims did not deserve to be hurt, especially when it's a hate crime. -Talk to children about telling an adult when someone is behaving in cruel ways. -Say that such events are rare and unusual. ============================================================= Teachnology, Inc. makes no warranties, either expressed or implied, about the truth or accuracy of the content of the TeAch-nology.com newsletter. ============================================================= If you are interested in sponsoring this newsletter place your order online at: http://www.teach-nology.com/advertising/ ============================================================= © 2001 Teachnology, Inc.
