Ask Our Experts- ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "I want to make videos for my class. I had my computer, big TV, VCR, and Laser Disk player all connected together to do this. I would type on Powerpoint a title screen, etc. Then I would put a tape in the VCR and record my Powerpoint to the tape. Then I would take the tape out of the VCR and put it in my video camera and record the class. It worked great. Unfortunately the floor crew unplugged my componants while waxing. I can not seem to get everything back for this kind of recording. Can you write it down for me, draw a diagram or give me a web site that would tell me what to plug into what?? My teacher computer is on line and hooked to a school file server. Thanks in advance for trying to help. I really appreciate your time and effort." ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Let's start backwards. This makes it a little easier. 1. Connect the VCR to the TV output. 2. Connect the Laser Disk To The VCR Output. (This means that you will probably have to have the VCR on to use the Laser Disc. 3. Connect the Computer to the TV input either via the S-video port or via a VGA adapter. That should do it. ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "How can I modify my existing website on teach-nology.com?" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Just visit this page: http://members.teach-nology.com Input the web address (youraddress.teach-nology.com) that you chose and your password. You are then free to edit your web pages with our easy to use site builder. ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "I am looking to find out what is "best practice" or what most teachers do on their first day to get to know their students. What is normal procedure for the first day of school?" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: TThe best way to get to know your students on the first day is to have an "inventory of interests" that you can distribute to your students asking them to tell you their favorite things. Depending on the ages and stages of students will determine the types of questions that you would ask them to respond to. Younger children can draw their response to questions that you might ask. The first day should also be used to tell your students about yourself and what your expectations are. Some ideas about the first day can also be found at: http://www.teach-nology.com/ideas/start_year/ Good luck! ============================================================= 10. "Our Latest Idea That Worked!" "Student-led Conferences" By: Judy, Middle School Teacher "The best thing I've seen in conferences was when the school I teach at went to Student-led Conferences! Each student leads their own conference with their parents, explaining grades, achievement as compared to goals written earlier. The students have prepared for the conferences and the parents have been given questions to ask relating to assignments from the term. I don't know who came up with the idea, but EVERY student has a conference and takes ownership of his/her education! Teachers are available if there are questions, grade sheets from each subject are at hand, and the child has to answer for his/her progress. If there is a need for all teachers to be there, conferences can be scheduled on an individual basis." ============================================================= Teachnology, Inc. makes no warranties, either expressed or implied, about the truth or accuracy of the content of the TeAch-nology.com newsletter. ============================================================= If you are interested in sponsoring this newsletter place your order online at: http://www.teach-nology.com/advertising/ ============================================================= © 2001 Teachnology, Inc.
