Jokes You Can Tell In Class- "Children's Moments Sermon" During our church's worship service, the pastor invites all the young children to join him near the altar for the "Children's Moments Sermon." One day, with seven small children in attendance, he spoke about the ingredients required to make up a church, using a chocolate-chip cookie as an example. He explained to the children that, as with a cookie requiring ingredients such as sugar and eggs, the church needed ingredients to make up the congregation. Holding a cookie aloft, he asked, "If I took the chocolate chips out of this cookie, what would I have?" A shy six-year-old raised his hand. "Six less grams of fat," he replied. ------------------------------------------------------------- Like Jokes?? Ask Our Experts- ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "Are there any magazines specifically designed for technology educators at the elementary school level? Or magazines for elementary school technology students??" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: We haven't run into a teaching with technology magazine specifically for the elementary crowd. Now that you mention it, most of the available magazines are geared for secondary educators. One publication that does a good job of covering a variety of the K-12 spectrum is Technology & Learning. You can find out more about it here: http://www.techlearning.com/ ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "My classroom is being wired with T1 technology. The wires have been pulled, there is a black box on the wall running, but not connection to the computer. I currently have 2 Gateways 400mz. 6g hard drive. What do I need to purchase to connect the black box on the wall to the computer? How do I connect to the internet? No one seems to know what to do since it isn't a modem connection." ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Assuming the black box you are referring to is a switch of some kind, you would need to equip both of the computers with ethernet or network cards that are supported by "The Black Box". A little cable action and you're in business. Always make sure to check with you tech department before you do anything. Work done on networks by unlicensed people can make maintenance contracts void. ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "What are some of the most popular reading approaches and/or programs used by Reading Specialists today?" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: It is hard to pin point the most popular literacy approaches that are being used today. However, a good source of information related to literacy can be found at: http://www.teach-nology.com/teachers/literacy/ Good luck. ============================================================= 10. "Our Latest Idea That Worked!" "Making Flags" By: Terry Silvestri: Kent, Nevada "Materials: Construction paper, writing paper, popsicle stick or flag stick, crayons, markers, glue, pencils. Ask students to create mini flags for all themes being studied. Then have the students attach their flags to the book. I like to have them make individual flags for each character in the book we are reading at the time. On the back of the flag, I ask them to write an acrostic poem about character. They love it!" ============================================================= Teachnology, Inc. makes no warranties, either expressed or implied, about the truth or accuracy of the content of the TeAch-nology.com newsletter. ============================================================= If you are interested in sponsoring this newsletter place your order online at: http://www.teach-nology.com/advertising/ ============================================================= © 2001 Teachnology, Inc.
