Teachers: Time To Exercise! Check This Site Out! Dutch scientists have shown that a modest exercise program undertaken for 17 weeks can boost the immune response in frail, older adults. This is important, as there is a natural tendency for immunity to decline as we age. Interestingly, a diet enriched with vitamins and minerals did not have the same beneficial effect. Jokes You Can Tell In Class- "Bad Golfer" A golfer took his tee shot and watched the ball sail into the woods. His next shot went into a few trees. He tried again and managed to hit the ball over the fairway and into more trees. Finally, after several more shots, he ended up in a sand trap. Throughout his ordeal, he was under the watchful eye of the local golf pro. "What club should I use on this shot?" he asked the pro. "I don't know," the pro replied. Ask Our Experts- ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "I would like to know a free site where you can create your test and then have the browser print it out to copy on the copier for administering to students.Right now I'm not interested in students taking the test on the internet.I thought the download you mentioned sounded good on the last newsletter but when I tried to find it onthe list you sent me to I could not.The title was 'Quiz Maker Pro' or something.....?I've written before about a suitable free download for this and I've not had any luck." ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: We have a number of excellent programs that should meet your needs at the following location: http://www.teach-nology.com/downloads/test/ ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "How would you define computer literacy?" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Computer literacy could be defined simply as the ability to use technology effectively. According to the "National Educational Technology Standards for Students" published by the NETS Project (information can be found at www.iste.org), technology foundation standards are divided into six broad categories: 1. Basic operations and concepts; 2. Social, ethical, and human issues; 3. Technology productivity tools; 4. Technology communication tools; 5. Technology research tools; and 6. Technology problem-solving and decision-making tools. Students are expected to gain mastery of standards within each of these categories to be considered "technology-literate." ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "I AM LOOKING FOR A SPELLING CENTER IDEA. I AM JUST BEGINNING TO FORM CENTERS IN MY CLASSROOM. I TEACH THIRD GRADE. ANY IDEAS WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU." ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Spelling centers can include worksheets that enable students to practice with the words that they will be required to master. In addition to worksheets, you can use crosswords, http://www.teach-nology.com/web_tools/crossword/ or you can use a word search maker http://www.teach-nology.com/web_tools/word_search/ to make spelling activities fun and challenging. Any activities that enable students to interact with the words would reinforce spelling. If you have technology available, you can set students up with software progrmas that assist in developing spelling skills. Good luck. ============================================================= 10. "Our Latest Idea That Worked!" "All Tied Up!" By: Jimmy Fischer, Elementary Specialist: Idaho "This activity requires a large ball of string. Have the students sit in a circle and emphasize that they must remain in their seats (for safety reasons). The game starts by a child or the teacher saying the name of someone else in the circle and holding on to the end of the string, while throwing the ball to the person they named. The receiver calls out the name of another child, and keeps hold of his or her end of the string while throwing the ball of string on to the named child. As this continues a tangled web begins to be formed by the crossing of strings. When the web is completed the group has to undo the web by calling names and throwing the ball of string which is rewound by the receiver before sending it on." ============================================================= Teachnology, Inc. makes no warranties, either expressed or implied, about the truth or accuracy of the content of the TeAch-nology.com newsletter. ============================================================= If you are interested in sponsoring this newsletter place your order online at: http://www.teach-nology.com/advertising/ ============================================================= © 2001 Teachnology, Inc.
