Ask Our Experts- ************************************************************* A question from Tallya: "I have a simple question. I would like to make some changes on your suggested rubrics but, as far as I understand, I have to convert them into wordfiles. How do I do that? I tried copy and paste which didn't work at all. Please help." ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: If you would like to edit our rubrics offline using the latest version of MS Word, just make a rubric and then save it from your browser. This will save it as an HTML file. Then open this file in MS Word and edit it from there. The newer version of Word allow you to edit HTML. ************************************************************* A question from Bonnie: "My seven year old daughter is being retauned because of a peronal conflict between her teavher and myself. I confronted her teacher about verbally insulting my child in front of her class. Since then my daughter is looking a retention with no alternatives and the new Principal supports her decision. My daughter has a B-C average in all subjects. She has no disabilities. She is below grade level in Reading and Writing but still has a B-C average. I have a private tutor twice a week and she is improving tremendously. This doesn't matter to them. The tutor wrote a letter and said that she will be at level before placement next year and please take this into consideration. They said "no." They did a IQ test on my daughter and she scored a 105. She was at level in Reading, slightly below in writing and high level in Science, Social Studies and Math. Again, this doesn't matter. The Superintendant says (without looking at anything) says the Principal has the final say so. I have asked that my daughter be assigned with my reccomendation. Again "no". I don't know what to do. I never should've wrote the letter but I can't allow my daughter to be insulted by anybody. I do not know where to turn." ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: It is hard to imagine that a teacher would retain a child because of personal reasons. It is also hard to respond to this question without more information from all sides. However, if you are claiming that your child is passing everything in all subject areas and that there is no evidence for retention, then you may have a case that can be presented to an attorney for possible legal action. As long as you have documentation that substantiates reasons on why your child should not be retained, you have an argument. However, before you take any action, make sure you have the evidence to back up your claim, i.e., test scores, grades, standardized testing results, progress reports, or any other evidence to support your child's case. It might even be a good idea to try to meet with the school adminstration one last time before any legal action is considered. Good luck! ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "I am an elementary school librarian and am always looking for good sources. What do you consider the best on-line encyclopedia?
