Quote of the week- The teacher must derive not only the capacity, but the desire, to observe natural phenomena. In our system, she must become a passive, much more than an active, influence, and her passivity shall be composed of anxious scientific curiosity and of absolute respect for the phenomenon which she wishes to observe. The teacher must understand and feel her position of observer: the activity must lie in the phenomenon. ~ Maria Montessori ~ ============================================================= 4. +Message To Teachers From The Environment Action Center* The Bush Energy Plan: It Just Keeps Polluting... Ask Our Experts- ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "Please refer me to web tools that will allow me to construct a 30-item survey on the Net. In other words, I am looking for a survey generator that will allow for electronic administration and processing as well. Thank you for your assistance." ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: This site: http://www.zoomerang.com/ is well known for the services you seek. ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "How can I connect my computer to the TV in my classroom?" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: The device you are looking for is termed a "VGA-TV Converter." There is an array of VGA-TV converters to choose from. The difference between each model, besides minor bells and whistles, is resolution. The higher the resolution, the better the picture quality. One thing to keep in mind is that your TV is never going to give as good a picture as your monitor, at least with our current state in technology. The colors are usually off. You should also try to just use light colors on your display, they come out better on the TV. As far as which manufacture to go with, we would recommend FOCUS Enhancements. They are the industry leader in this sector. They make a quaility product at an afforable price. You can visit their web site at: http://www.focusenhancements.com/ It seems we get this question a lot. So, TeAch-nology.com will be developing a tutorial on this one. ************************************************************* A question from Annette: "I am looking for a free test generator on the interneft or multiple choice, true/false, and fill in the blank." ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: There is a great free service that does this at: http://12teach.com/ ============================================================= 10. "Our Latest Idea That Worked!" "Know Your Students by Name" By: Jean Marie, K-12 PE Teacher: Burlington, VT "Many PE teachers have over 300 students in a given school year if not more. I have found an easy way to know the names of my students. One of the first classes is devoted to having students write their name (with very large print) on a 5x7 index card. Some times I let them design the card with their own insignia. I then laminate the cards and affix a "safety" pin on the back. Students are expected to wear their name tags for the first several months until I get to know all of them by name. If there are activities that require precautionary measures for safety, I ask that the students remove the tags and set them aside. Other options include having the students design their own tee shirts using indelible ink." ------------------------------------------------------------- **To Submit An Idea That Worked For You, Click Below: http://www.teach-nology.com/ideas/tell_us/ ============================================================= Teachnology, Inc. makes no warranties, either expressed or implied, about the truth or accuracy of the content of the TeAch-nology.com newsletter. ============================================================= If you are interested in sponsoring this newsletter place your order online at: http://www.teach-nology.com/advertising/ ============================================================= © 2001 Teachnology, Inc.
