Special Announcement...
TeAch-nology.com is a web portal that provides a vast amount
of resources and links to sites that are designed for
educators. Although our staff reviews all links that are
provided, we have little control over what is changed once
those sites are initially reviewed and placed on our site.
Therefore, as a precaution, before you decide to recommend
any sites for your students to use, we strongly encourage
you to preview those sites and make sure that they are
appropriate for student use.

1. Site of the week-
Search Cactus- http://www.qksrv.net/click-400293-1179711
SearchCactus.com is a new search engine that was developed
to provide users with the best search results available on
the web today. In addition, they believe users should be
rewarded for their time spent online, and therefore compensate
their users for utilizing the SearchCactus.com site.
They will compensate users $0.02 for visiting web sites with
an appearing next to the listing. Users will be compensated
for visiting up to 20 sites a day. You must stay on paying
sites at least 20 seconds to be compensated.
Their members are paid on a monthly basis once their account
balance is greater than $20.00. There is a $2.00 processing
fee on all checks sent outside of the United States. If a
member's account balance is less than $20.00 at the end of
the month, the balance will be carried forward to the
following month. You may allow your balance to accumulate
to any amount you like.
It's worth a try!

5. Jokes You Can Tell In Class-
"Ask a Police Officer"
While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary
school, I was interrupted by a little girl about six years
old. Looking up and down at my uniform, she asked, "Are you
a police officer?"
"Yes," I answered, and continued writing the report.
"My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the
police. Is that right?"
"Yes, that's right," I told her.
"Well, then," she said as she extended her foot toward me,
"would you please tie my shoe?"

9. Ask Our Experts-
*************************************************************
A question from Anonymous:
"Is there a free site that has testing formats that one could
use like a template sort of thing to type in your own info
in whatever form ,multiple-choice ,or matching, etc. and then
the site will generate the test ready to copy on the printer?
I've seen some sites but when I start to print what I've done
the test deletes itself or something. I have noticed on your
site some software recommendations that one can purchase but
I don't know about those. We can generate rubrics and work
sheet information from your site, why don't you have other
assessment generators?"
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
TeAch-nology has looked into developing other traditional
assessment instruments. But the reality of education is that
each state follows different guidelines for assessing student
achievement which makes it nearly impossible to create a
generator that would benefit everyone. We will be releasing
basic assessment tool generators later this summer.
There are a few sites that allow you to make On-line tests.
Two of the best sites include:
http://www.interactivetest.com/
and
http://12teach.com/
As far as making printable assessments, one of the best
programs available is named Test Generator 2. It's made by
Fain and Company. A demo version is available here:
http://www.testshop.com/
The complete package is $249.00. It's an excellent program
and you get what you pay for in the end.
*************************************************************
A question from Anonymous:
I want to create electronic online forms to reduce paperwork
and increase efficiency. Our schools are using FrontPage
2000 with the server extensions installed. What is your
recommendation?
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
If your FrontPage extension is installed properly, you
should have no problem creating forms. Just be aware that a
lot of schools that run Internet Filtering software report a
number of problems when processing forms.
Another option is to write separate HTML pages and process the
forms via cgi or php scripts. If you are familiar with
scripting, this site is a great resource:
http://www.hotscripts.com/
If the term scripting is foreign to you, you may just want to
avoid cgis altogether, especially since many teachers don't
have administrator access to set the permissions on files. You
just may want to take the easy way out and use a free service
to process your forms for you. Here a are some sites that
we recommend:
http://www.nr1webresource.com/whiz-mail/
http://www.formresources.com/
http://www.formbuddy.com/
*************************************************************
A question from Anonymous:
"I need a web site that explains the solar and lunar eclipse
at 4th - 6th grade level."
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
http://www.kidsastronomy.com/
An excellent site for all your space science needs.

10. "Our Latest Idea That Worked!"
"The Homework Game"
By: Steve, 9th Grade Science Teacher
"I had trouble getting my students to particpate in
homework/class work reviews, so I created this game. I
randomly choose one student, before we start the review. This
student then chooses who answers each question throughout the
review. He/She can not choose the same person twice
throughout the review. Which usually means, that each student
has to answer one question. As a class they are allowed to
get three wrong. If they get four wrong (as a class), they
don't get the prize. The prize usually is 5 points extra on
everyone's homework grade. You can't believe how effective
this has been. They even study together before the reviews
now!"
