As an alternative and time-honored tradition they wholesaled inexpensive gifts and accessories to these small groups which in turn would sell them for a fair profit. In time we began offering additional items always adding a few new touches along the way. Jokes You Can Tell In Class- "Help Is On The Way!" My friend was on duty in the main lab on a quiet afternoon. He noticed a young woman sitting in front of one of the computer workstations with her arms crossed across her chest and staring at the screen. After about 15 minutes he noticed that she was still in the same position only now she was impatiently tapping her foot. He asked if she needed help and she replied, "It's about time! Ask Our Experts- ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "What should i take up as my career "chartered accountant" or" management of business administration"?" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Before you make any decisions about your career, you should find out how marketable you would be if you were to choose one over the other. A way to find out is to do a search on each. You can also meet with college personnel who would be able to tell you more about each opportunity. Good luck! ************************************************************* A question from Stephanie: "I am in a Master of Education program. I need to find a teacher of 'at risk' learners to get input on the context in which 'at risk' is defined in each situation, what the definition of 'at risk' learners is for each teacher. Most importantly, what can be done about it, and how it can be different. If anyone can point me in the right direction, or if you have your own feedback, it would be greatly appreciated." ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: There are many ways to describe "at risk" students. The following resources can help define characteristics: http://www.ncrel.org/sdrs/areas/issues/students/atrisk/at700.htm and http://www.ncrel.org/sdrs/areas/issues/students/atrisk/at5def.htm To find teachers who teach at risk students, post a message on our "message forum" board at: http://teach-nology.community.everyone.net Good luck! ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "Why is teaching important?" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Teaching is important because you are in a position that can make a significant difference in the life of a child. Teaching gives students opportunities to develop life long skills. Teaching is perhaps one of the most important professions! ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "How do you report spelling or grammatical errors found on your site?" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Please report any errors to this address: http://www.teach-nology.com/help/feedback/ ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "What is the difference between Mrs. Miss and Ms? When do I use each abbreviation? What's the best way to refer to a female without hurting her feelings?" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: If you are in doubt about how to address a female, just ask what her preference is. Traditionally, Mrs. refers to any one who is married; Miss refers to a female who is single (unmarried); and Ms. can refer to anyone married or not. ************************************************************* A question from Gayle: "I need information about a transition/first and second grade class. I am interested in positive (or negative) outcome studies and any other information or articles you can supply. Thank you. I work at an orthodox day school (early childhood-grade 8). We are in the process of changing our special education program with self-contained classes to a transition grade 1-2 class. We need articles, research, etc. to support this change in curriculum." ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Have you tried our special education page at http://www.teach-nology.com/teachers/special_ed/ Good luck! ************************************************************* A question from Anonymous: "I was wondering if colleges look at progress reports or only at report cards?" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: It is hard to answer this question because it depends on the college requirements for admission. It is a good idea to check with the college you will be applying to. Generally, colleges will consider SAT scores, report card averages, letters of recommendation, writing samples, and class rank. If a school considers using progress reports as a means of assessment, a college may request that in addition to all that has been mentioned. ************************************************************* A question from Karen: "I am a teacher in the New York City Public School system. There are many conversations about the "New Continuum" which would decrease the number of self contained special education classes. I have asked several people and have search the internet, yet I cannot find any information on this innitiative. Do you know where I could locate information? Thank you" ************************************************************* TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response: Go to the New York Board of Education web site at: http://www.nycenet.edu/ Type in "New Continuum" in the 'key word search.' There you will find the information you requested. Good luck! ============================================================= 10. "Our Latest Idea That Worked!" "Actions That Take Courage" By: Kathryn Toro: 4th Grade Teacher "I had a sexual harassment incident in my class this week. Instead of just reprimanding the students involved, I decided to teach about choices and actions that take courage. I explained to them how choices are truly a gift and we can make positive and negative choices. Then, using a book called "Lists to Live By," we discussed the varying choices that could have been made. By the end of the lesson, I had the entire story unfolded, because they fed directly into the story line and uncovered themselves!" ------------------------------------------------------------- **To Submit An Idea That Worked For You, Click Below: http://www.teach-nology.com/ideas/tell_us/ ============================================================= Please take the time to visit our sponsors, this newsletter would not be possible without their support. ============================================================= Teachnology, Inc. makes no warranties, either expressed or implied, about the truth or accuracy of the content of the TeAch-nology.com newsletter. ============================================================= If you are interested in sponsoring this newsletter place your order online at: http://www.teach-nology.com/advertising/ ============================================================= © 2001 Teachnology, Inc.
