1. Site of the week-
SearchShots- http://www.searchshots.com/
This week we bring you a very exciting site to your attention,
SearchShots. SearchShots is really a substantial leap in
search engine technology. In the past five years, there have
been plenty of times when you come across a web site that
will change the entire Internet experience. First Yahoo!,
then Google, and now we have SearchShots.
SearchShots is a new kind of visual search engine that
provides preview screenshots of every site. To view an
example listing, click here. The database at SearchShots is
currently limited, but as it develops it should save you tons
of time searching.
The idea for SearchShots was conceived in December 1999
because Paul Rydell (the creator) thought it would be
interesting to see what a website was going to look like
before he clicked on it. The more he thought about the idea
he realized that seeing a preview of what a website looks
like along with its description is also very useful... The
presentation of data on a website can tell you a lot about
its quality and content.
The first version of SearchShots went live in February, 2000
with screenshots of only 500 websites. The SearchShots'
database currently has over 1.3 million screenshots.
Don't be surprised if the larger search engines catch on!

3. Quote of the week-
The real difficulty, the difficulty which has baffled the
sages of all times, is rather this: how can we make our
teaching so potent in the motional life of man, that its
influence should withstand the pressure of the elemental
psychic forces in the individual?
~ Albert Einstein ~

5. Jokes You Can Tell In Class-
"Name the States"
The old pastor made it to a practice to visit the parish
school one day a week. He walked into the 4th grade class,
where the children were studying the states, and asked them
how many states they could name. They came up with about 40
names. He jokingly told them that in his day students knew
the names of all the states. One lad snickered, "Yes, but in
those days there were only 13"

7. Download of the Week-
PC Download:
Learn Letters-
"Learn Letters teaches children to know and make the 26
letters of the alphabet. Using the shapes the letters have in
common, the child is guided as he combines shapes to make the
lower case letters of the alphabet. Learning the names and
shapes of the letters of the alphabet is the first step to
reading. This is one of the most important, most basic things
a child needs to know to learn to read. Learn Letters makes
learning the letters of the alphabet fun and easy, even for
children whose fine motor coordination is not yet well
developed. Fun, educational hands-on learning."

Mac Download:
Pizza Party Puzzles-
"Middle-School (grades 5 through 9) math program written to
provide skills in context. Students use hints to find what
fraction of a pizza was eaten by each of five party-goers.
Sample hints: 'Judy had 2/5 of a pizza. Bill ate twice as
much pizza as Judy."

9. Ask Our Experts-
*************************************************************
A question from Anonymous:
"Teaching is not a right, it is a privelege and a
responsibility earned" I am currently a student studying
Elem/Special Ed. and am looking for a response to this
quote, agree or disagree. I've been thinking and I sort of
agree....Help!"
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
"If one were to define a "right" as an "automatic" guarantee
in life, then teaching cannot be defined as a "right." To
define teaching as "privilege and as a responsibility
earned," it can then be regarded as a "choice" one makes in
order to receive such privilege and such responsibility. In
this case, it goes without saying that teaching is not for
everyone, but for those who have "earned the right" to touch
the lives of children!"
*************************************************************
A question from Anonymous:
"How do I make my speech better as in how do I make it smart
instead of using small words."
*************************************************************
TeAch-nology.com's Staff Response:
"Two ways: Read more and build a vocabulary bank. Pick
books that will expose you to better vocabulary and learn at
least ten new words a week. Good luck!"

10. "Our Latest Idea That Worked!"
By: Joannie, 5th Grade Teacher: Cape Cod, MA
"Hallway Ins and Outs"
"While walking through the hallway, teach your students to
leave all doorways clear. For example, if the line of
students stop, and there is a classroom door (or any door)
along side of the line, have the students leave an open space
(the width of the door) so that someone could still walk in
or out of the room."
