Site of the week- Are We There Yet?- http://www.fieldtrip.com/ "Are We There Yet?" is the child of a guide written to solve a specific problem: where can a teacher or camp counselor take a group of kids for an entertaining, yet rewarding experience? There was no guide that catered to groups, and existing guides to places of interest had a touristy flavor that did not adequately convey the educational value of the places they were describing. The first book featured places of interest in and around New York City, to a radius of about 60 miles. The author went to great lengths to include the smaller museums, historic sites and nature centers that many people had never heard of. Of course, the famous places were included too. The guide was an instant hit with schools, libraries, camps, senior citizens groups and others in the tri-state area. Though "Are We There Yet?" was written primarily for groups, parents found the book in libraries and began ordering it. The next edition was written with families in mind, as well as groups. Next came a Philadelphia edition. Like the New York book, this guide extended well beyond Philly's city limits, covering an area from Harrisburg to the Jersey Shore and from northern Delaware to central New Jersey. The natural evolution from printed guides was the Internet. Here users can freely access information about hundreds and hundreds of great places to visit and things to do. "Are We There Yet?" went on-line in 1996. ============================================================= 2. Wanna Visit Disney?? Save up to $500 on your next trip to Orlando!! By: Anne, 6th grade Teacher: Kingston, NY "Room Helper" "Every classroom, at some point, has a student that pushes the behavioral limits set. Select these particular students and delegate relative and meaningful responsibilities. Make them a helper in the room. Provide consistent praise and feedback of the assistance they have given. Discuss with the student the positive outcomes as a result of their actions. I have found that by doing this, the student begins to see for themselves the positive effects they are capable of." ------------------------------------------------------------- Click Below, To Visit Our "Ideas That Worked!"
