Jokes you can tell other educators- As he was driving home from work, a man in a rural community was stopped by a local police officer. The motorist, informed that he had failed to come to a full stop at a stop sign, was handed a ticket. "Don't I get a warning?" he protested. The officer replied, "Sure. Ask A Technology Expert- <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> A question from Anonymous: "How do you keep the "Log-In to Microsoft Networking" dialog box from appearing during startup?" <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> TeAch-nology.com's response: "Did you try using the "x" or the cancel button? This will work on most versions. When you reboot your computer, it should be gone. If that doesn't work for you, here is another possibility: Click on Start > Then Settings > Control Panel > Passwords > Change Windows password. Enter your password, then leave the new password and confirm new password boxes blank. When Windows boots up it will not ask you for a password." <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> ************************************************************* To ask the TeAch-nology.com staff a technology question go to: http://www.teach-nology.com/help/ask_a_tech_expert/ ************************************************************* ============================================================= 8. Ask An Educational Expert- <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> A question from Anonymous: "Hi. I'm formulating a proposal for my high school administration that involves a teacher Internet search service. Any ideas?" <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> TeAch-nology.com's response: The terminology "Internet search service" lends itself to a very broad spectrum. Since we don't know the specific theme of your proposal or the history behind your district's technology focus, we can only offer a very general set of suggestions. The first thing you should consider in a proposal such as this is funding. There is a great deal of federal and state monies available for such innovative programs. You can find a great number of sites that deal with such issues in our funding section at: http://www.teach-nology.com/teachers/funding/ Some suggestions for you as to the mechanics of such a program may include: 1. The creation of a monthly newsletter- Some schools publish a newsletter that focuses on specific theme or content areas on a monthly basis. The newsletter can be developed by both staff and students. Some programs treat it in the same way bulletin board assignment creation is treated, a group of teachers has it assigned to them one month out of the year. The main obstacle with this is the entire accountability piece. Make sure that one central person / or group of people are involved with every newsletter. 2. Create a web guru position at your school- In the last year, we have seen over a dozen individual schools create a part-time position, or part-duty type position where one person serves as a search guru. The primary objective of someone in such a position is to find quality Internet-based content for other teachers to integrate into their classes by staff request. The obstacle here is finding someone qualified. 3. Create After-school Search Center- Many media specialists have been doing this kind of thing for years, but now they use the Internet. In this kind of environment, a supervisor serves the role facilitator and helps staff, students, and community members find what they need. A number of schools are even providing students the opportunity to work in paid supervisory positions. It makes sense since a great number of youngsters are skilled Internet users. We hope this helps! If we can be of anymore service, you know where we are. Good luck! <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> ************************************************************* To ask the TeAch-nology.com staff a technology question go to: http://www.teach-nology.com/help/ask_a_tech_expert/ ************************************************************* ============================================================= 9.
