Jokes you can tell in class- "Cooking a Roast" One day a little girl was watching her mom make a roast beef. She cut off the ends, wrapped it in string, seasoned it and set it in the roasting pan. The little girl asked her mom why she cut off the ends of the roast. Mom replied, after some thought, that it was the way that her mother had done it. That night grandma came to dinner and the little girl and her mom went to her and asked why she had cut the end off of the roast before cooking. After some thought grandma replied, that was the way her mother had done it. Now great grandmother was quite old and in a nursing home. But the little girl went with her mom and grandma to see her and again asked the question. Grandma looked at them a bit annoyed and said, "So it would fit in the pan, of course." ------------------------------------------------------------- Want More Free Jokes & Humor? Ask A Technology Expert- <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> A question from anonymous: "What sites would you recommend for learning the software Flash for a beginner? I would like to learn it and use it with my 5th grade students." TeAch-nology.com's Response: Macromedia Flash is a very difficult program to learn. We would only recommend that advanced users take a go at this one. Flash requires prior experience in graphic design programs (i.e. Photoshop, Fireworks, Illustrator ), web development programs (i.e. FrontPage, Dreamweaver), and Movie Editing Programs (i.e Premiere, Director). Flash tends to frustrate teachers due to its difficulty. As each new version appears, it seems to get more user friendly. Version 5.0 is on its way to stores as we speak. The best site we have seen to learn Flash for FREE is by far Myhelpdesk.com- (www.myhelpdesk.com) Good Luck and plan to be very patient! <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> A question from anonymous: "E-mail - I'm having difficulty locating the FOLDERS section, the OPTIONS, SENT, DRAFTS etc. When I open my e-mail box, I see INBOX, COMPOSE and ADDRESSES, that's it. How can I get to the folders section of the main navigator toolbar? How often is the e-mail section on downtime??" TeAch-nology.com's Response: We guess you're asking about our Free Web-Based E-mail (http://teachnology.mail.everyone.net/). The folders section you are referring to is clearly marked "Folders" and is the fourth button down from the top. The folders section will allow you to sort your mail into 4 main pre-created folders: inbox (what you have received), sent (what you have sent out), Trash (what you deleted), and Spam (our system suspects is junk mail). You can also create unlimited folders. As far as our downtime, our mail system has had been down for all of 2 hours the entire summer for maintenance. Besides that, we have been 100% up. We hope you enjoy our free service. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> A question from anonymous: "How to use technology for classroom teaching?" TeAch-nology.com's Response: This is a question that is not unique to teachers in today's educational arena. However, technology for classroom teaching is not a new concept. Teachers have been using technology for a very long time, i.e., overhead projectors, film strips, closed circuit TV, any "devices" that assist teaching and learning. But, in today's world, technology is considered more "digital" and thus, teachers are faced with learning how to use "digital technology" in teaching. This means that you need to first learn how to manipulate the technology available to you and then transfer that knowledge to your students. Using technology to teach is merely utilizing the information highway to access an endless amount of information that can be shared with your students. It also involves developing a proficiency in manipulating the vast amount of data that is available to help teachers provide challenging experiences for their students. As a teacher, you are responsible for guiding your students through a journey that will prepare them for productive lives. They will have an advantage if they know how to use technology "effectively." The bottom line is that as a classroom teacher, the best way to use technology in teaching is by modeling the use (after you have learned its use) and showing students how technology can open windows to the world. Start with easy tasks and work toward more challenging tasks. Expect your students to accomplish assignments by incorporating technology, either by using technology to find information, analyze it, and/or to present it. If your school does not have the latest technology, investigate if your local library has Internet access. Remember, technology is a teaching tool. Once you get started, you'll be hooked. Good luck. ************************************************************* To ask the TeAch-nology.com staff a technology question go to: http://www.teach-nology.com/help/ask_a_tech_expert/ ************************************************************* ============================================================= 8.
