Technology Tidbit- A question from Kelly of Houston, Texas: "All of the computers at my school have been infected with the "I Love You" virus. It took us 2 weeks to clear that virus out and now we are experiencing the "Tally" virus. Is this ever going to stop? How can we protect ourselves?" TeAch-nology.com Responds: The types of viruses you have metioned are becoming quite common. In fact, most of our staff have contracted similar viruses early last year. Viruses of this nature are contracted and transmitted because of a security flaw in the most popular e-mail in the world Microsoft Outlook Express. When Outlook Express receives the infected message a small program accesses your contact manager and sends each of your e-mail contacts a copy of the same infected message you received. To protect yourself from this type of virus, which seems to be the current trend among viruses, delete the Microsoft Outlook Express program. Then download a copy of Eudora Lite from www.download.com. Eudora is a very good mail program and very similar to Outlook Express. Eudora has security flaws similiar to Outlook Express, but very few viruses target this mail program because it's not as popular. When someone writes a virus they want to infect as many people as possible. ************************************************************* To ask the TeAch-nology.com staff a question go to: http://www.teach-nology.com/help/ask_a_tech_expert/ ************************************************************* ============================================================= Sponsor: ============================================================= 5.
