Quote of the Week
"Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are endless."
~ Mother Teresa ~
Jokes You Can Tell in Class
"Vernon, where's your homework?" Miss Martin said sternly to the little
boy while holding out her hand.
"My dog ate it," was his solemn response.
"Vernon, I've been a teacher for eighteen years. Do you really expect
me to believe that?"
"It's true, Miss Martin, I swear," insisted the boy. "I had to force him,
but he ate it!"

Our Latest Teaching Idea that Worked!
"School Post Office"
By: Sarah Hines, Elementary Teacher
The grade level teachers at my school
have created a cooperative school post office system that helps reinforce
responsibility and critical thinking in our students. All of the mail
for our grade level teachers is placed in one box in our school office.
On a daily basis, we assign a pair of students from the various class
to manage the mail. The mail is delivered by these students twice a day.
Students sort the mail and place it in our classroom folders outside our
doors. Students really take pride in doing a great job!

"Small Stella is an ideal polyhedron program for schools or anyone interested
in geometry. There are over 150 polyhedral built-in, or over 300 if you
include their duals, and that's still not counting the infinite series
of prisms and antiprisms. Best of all, you can print out the nets required
to build your own paper models!"

Topic - Teaching metaphors
Anyone have any great ideas or books to use when teaching metaphors to 3rd
graders? I used quick as a cricket for similes and they got them down, I
think. But, metaphors are a little more complicated. Thanks for any help!
