Materials:

Introduction:
Lesson plan begins with viewing the PowerPoint presentation, Know Your Money! developed by myself and my Paraeducator, Mrs. Bland.
Development:
I will now show the students examples of real and play money. I will ask them to identify each one orally as I show it to them.
Practice:
 1. After the students have a basic understanding of the bills and coins we will be discussing they will be asked to identify these coins on a worksheet. They will then color the coins and bills the appropriate color and cut them out. They will take the cutouts and glue them to flash cards and label them to use for study purposes. 2. As a group the students will discuss the value of each bill and coin. Using this knowledge, the students will be given a $5 budget and a list of items that they can buy ranging in price from 1 cent to $5. They will determine the amount of money they spend and the change they should receive. They will then do this with a partner. 3. As a group the students will play Junior Monopoly to gain practice in counting money and making change.
Accommodations:
Specific students will need enlarged formats of the coins and bills being discussed as well as individualized instruction from me including reading of the assignments and the final test.
Checking For Understanding:
The students will be given a quiz to check for understanding of each of these objectives: 1. Students will be able to identify coins and bills up to $5. 2. Students will be able to determine the value of a collection of different bills and coins. 3. Students will be able to make chang from coins and bills up to $5.
