 Sorting - to separate into distinct classes. Attribute - charasteric of a thing.
Goals:
 5.01 Sort and classify objects by one attribute.
Objectives:
 TLW sort 20 plastic bears by color
Materials:
 -5 forks, 5 knives, 5 spoons -10 green buttons, 10 blue buttons, 10 yellow buttons, 10 orange buttons. -75 purple plastic bears, 75 red plastic bears, 75 brown plastic bears, 75 black plastic bears.
Introduction:
 -Call students to carpet to sit in circle. -Place a pile of silverware into the middle of the circle. -Ask the class if that is how their parents put the silverware into the drawer at home?
Development:
 -Converstaion continues until stduents tell teacher that parents sort silverware by forks, spoons, knives. -Teahcer sorts silverware and tell class that is sorting.
Practice:
 -Pile of buttons placed in middle of circle. -Have one student sort by green. -Have one student sort by blue. -Have one student sort by yellow. -Have one student sorty by orange. -Send students back to their desks.
Accommodations:
 None
Checking For Understanding:
 Moving around room, using visual informal assessment while individaul sorting is taking place.
Closure:
 -Positive and immediate feedback. -Review - today how did we sort items? (by color) -Tomorrow we will sort objects by shape. -Now let's get ready for story time.
Evaluation:
 Students met the objective of sorting 20 plastic bears by color. Students success was 100%, over that of the objective.
Teacher Reflections:
 Students really understood the silverware example. Relating lessons to real life and something the students see all the time enable the students to understand the concept both in and out of the classroom.
