 The Game, Math Mania is use to introduce students to work with integers, the context of winning points (represented by positive integers) and losing points (represented by negative integers)which helps students to build on their intutive understanding of the numbers. VOCABULARY WORDS: ABSOLUTE VALUE, ALGORITHM, COORDINATES, INTEGERS, NEGATIVE NUMBER, NUMBER SENTENCE, OPPOSITES, POSITIVE INTEGERS, ORDER OF OPERATIONS, INVERSE OPERATIONS, QUADRANTS, RATIONAL NUMBER VOCABULARY:
Goals:
 SUNSHINE STATE STANDARDS: MA.A.3.3.1 - The students understand and explain the effects of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division on whole numbers, fractions, including mixed numbers, and decimal; including the inverse relationships of positive and negative numbers.
Objectives:
 The student will: 12.1 Represent integers on the number line. 12.2 Model situations with integers. 12.3 Compare integers using <, =, and > symbols. 12.4 Develop strategies for strategies for adding subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers.
Materials:
 TEXT: Accenuate the Negative, red and black disc. Internet Websites: Math Goodies.com, GoMath.com, Internet4Classrooms.com, and TheMathPage.com, laptop computer, overhead projector, and whiteboard.
Introduction:
 Text's introduction to Accenuate the Negative and the "Did you Know?" from the teacher's edition. This discusses golf scores and how golfers can have positive and negative scores.
Development:
 Using the Internet, students will watch a brief movie on Positive and Negative Numbers to help provide clarity on the subject, particularly for ESE students.
Practice:
 1)Students will be given a number line to practice placing positive and negative numbers as well as positive and negative fractions on the number line. 2)Playing the Math Mania Game. Launch: Discuss with the students the Jeopardy Game show shown on television. Students will work in pairs on the present on page 9.
Accommodations:
 1) Students will work in pairs to accomodate different learning styles. 2) Students will be shown a brief movie for further clarification of positive and negative numbers to reinforce the material with SLD and EH students. 3) Homework will be graded on work attempted.
Checking For Understanding:
 Students will present their answers to Problem 1.1 to the class.
Closure:
 Five minutes prior to the end of class, students will be asked to respond to the follow questions: 1) What did you learn that you did not know before? 2) What was not clear or confusing to you?
Evaluation:
 1) Teacher observation of students working in pairs and/or groups. 2) Completion of Homework Assignments 3) Quiz from TE Check-Up 1
