Goals:
 Students will learn to be metacognitive with their reading and demonstrate literal comprehension of leveled material
Objectives:
 Students will read from a leveled title and record thinking on a thinkmark to demonstrate monitoring their thinking.
Materials:
 leveled reading books for students guided reading folders handouts about monitoring thinkmarks
Introduction:
 Show students the word "Interactive". Predict the meaning.
Development:
 Model a conversation with a student. Explain that interactive means that both talkers participate. Read aloud from text lift. Think aloud clarifying and checking in or summarizing.
Practice:
 Ask students to read a short passage on chart paper. Share their thinking. Show thinking mark. Explain that you want to know what they are thinking, but that you can't see it, so it has to be recorded. Do a book intro for Muggie Maggie. Preview vocabulary and picture walk through ch 1. Listen in as they read independently and record thinking.
Accommodations:
 Leveled reader chosen is independent for these students. Nick responds by typing thinking.
Checking For Understanding:
 Listen in and confer before students return to desks.
Closure:
 Good readers listen to their inner conversation, and make changes when reading is confusing.
