Goals:
 1. Identify the types of interpersonal relationships in professional and social contexts. 2. Explain the importance and purpose of each type of interpersonal relationship. 3. Explain the characteristics of productive interpersonal communication. 4. Explain integrating interpersonal skills with task skills. Students will learn new vocabulary.
Objectives:
 1. Students will be able to identify the types of interpersonal relationships in professional and social contexts. 2. Students will understand the importance of interpersonal skills. 3. Students will understand the characteristics of productive interpersonal communication. 4. Students will understand how to integrate interpersonal skills with task skills.
Materials:
 Text: Communication Applications: Chapter 7, Glencoe Chart, graphic organizers.
Introduction:
 Bell ringer: Ask students to describe the face to face, one on one communication situation they are most comfortable with. . . the one they are most uncomfortable with. Graphic Organizer: Professional + Social Relationships and how they intersect.
Development:
 Q. Why do some people seem to get along with others and others seem to be in constant conflict? (small discussion) Q. What if you were never allowed to speak with others on a one-to-one basis? Charts & reading: Types of interpersonal relationships, role of interpersonal communication, importance of i-p: how and why, types of professional relationship.207-209 Did you know pg. 210 Charts & reading: Management & Employees, Employees and other Employees, Employees and the customer (client, public), word of mouth advertising. 210-212 Chart & reading: Types of Social Relationships, leadership and members, members and other members, members & public. 213 --- Q. Name a situation where you are part of a team. Describe the qualities that are helpful. Chart: Introduce 5 characteristics of productive interpersonal communication.
Practice:
 In small groups: students practice communicating and improving their communication skills. 5-10 min.Activity: Visit 3 businesses and observe interpersonal skills. Activity: Have students create a 10 question survey form to ask business employers to assess word-of-mouth advertising. Students will compile and graph. What is the object game.
Accommodations:
 Repeat instructions clearly. Visual: Write instructions on the board, Chart for high points, Graphic organizer, Art: create symbol for unity, harmony, and cooperation.
Checking For Understanding:
 Students will give reasonable answers to the above questions. Students will be able to do the surveys and participate in the class discussions. Students will learn the given vocabulary.
Closure:
 Review Key terms. Review 5 characteristics. Review answers to questions. Read and direct attention to the quotes from chart.
