Allow students that already know how to read long /a/ words to cmplete worksheet and then read independently.
Checking For Understanding:
Students will complete a worksheet to check for comprehension of long /a/words.

Reread long /a/ story. Ask students to raise a silent hand whenever they hear a word with a long /a/.
Evaluation:
As students begin to read unfamiliar material check to see if the student is applying how to read a long /a/ word followed by a consonant and a silent /e/.
Teacher Reflections:
The greatest measure of success is to hear children reading new and unfamiliar words by applying what they have learned. If class is not reading words with long /a/ and silent /e/ and new lesson will have to be retaught.
