Goals:
 Understand the study of Biology and what fields it encompasses. Appreciate the value of using the scientific method and be able to design an experiment using the scientific method.
Objectives:
 Students will be able to identify the different fields of Biology with what is studied in each. Students will be able to design an experiment using the scientific method.
Materials:
 SmartBoard, PowerPoint, paper and pencil, textbook.
Introduction:
 Why is the study of Biology important?
Development:
 Fields of Biology and examples. Steps of the Scientific Method and sample experiments.
Practice:
 Think/Pair/Share with scientific method.
Accommodations:
 Monitor EC students and help with difficulties.
Checking For Understanding:
 Check experiments that are written. Check vocabulary worksheets.
Closure:
 Review steps of the scientific method. Vocabulary ticket out the door.
Evaluation:
 Give a hypothetical experiment and have students indicate the steps of the scientific method and judge if this is a good experiment.
