Materials:
 calendar, pattern pg. 247, white c. paper, glue, glitter, star stickers, scissors, hole punchers, staplers, elastic cord or yarn, chart paper, teacher made worksheet "Months"
Introduction:
 Introduce today's lesson using the choral chant, "The Twelve Months of the Year" MDays 237
Development:
 Explain the meaning of New Year's Day by sharing concept information.
Practice:
 Have the students discriminate between the old year and new year by listing events from each on chart paper "Old Year-New Year" MDays pg. 238.
Accommodations:
 Auditory - Choral Chant Early finishers - Go to learning centers Slow Workers - Extra time Tactile - make hat Visual - Chart
Checking For Understanding:
 Students will write in their journals "New Years Day is when........... He/she will write/dictate the end of the sentence.
Closure:
 Review the months of the year, and have a volunteer tell when New Year's takes place.
Evaluation:
 Check each journal entry using the following rubric 2 points - Explained at least one event that takes place during New Years. 2 points - Illustrated story to match text. 2 points - Was able to read own story aloud.
