 Unit on Buddhism, Hinduism, society and cultural life and traditions in ancient India, the role of women in India. All of the following content is expected to be demonstrated on the test -Beginnings of India -Principles of Hinduism -The Caste System -Story of Siddhartha -Principles of Buddhism -Women in India
Goals:
 The purpose of this test is to assess the student's knowledge on life in ancient India, cultural traditions, and various historical movements that helped to shape life on the subcontinent.
Objectives:
 Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of Hindu traditions/culture including key terms (yoga,duty, guru, enlghtenment, karma, wedding customs, and the role of women) Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of Buddhist traditions/culture including key terms (nirvana, noble truths, 8 fold path, meditation.) Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the Hindu Caste system. (Caste names, colors, and duties) Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the story of Siddhartha (early life, extremems, love, suffering, knowledge) Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the role of Women in ancient India (Hinduism, corruption of women in Hinduism, renewel of women's status in Buddhism)
Materials:
 Test sheets
Introduction:
 Students will be given clear directions for the test clarifying all sections.
Development:
 Students will be given possible strategies/tips for writing the test successfully
Practice:
 Teacher will field questions, clarify, and monitor students during the test

 Students will be assessed based on the Unit Objectives rubric.
Closure:
 If there is time at the end of class students will have a brief class discussion debriefing the Ancient India unit.
