Do Nows are great for secondary level. I use them all the time. It gives you a good routine for kids.

Lightbulb HW Review

I start every class with peer reviewing of Homework. Each student is assigned a different buddy each week. They check each others homework at the start of class and are given an individual and group grade for homework.

Wink starters

I use crosswords from the newspaper. Also I will put a quote on the board and ask the students to write about what they think the author means. I start out with funny, easy to understand quotes, and then move on to some that require critical thinking skills.

Default I think not

Perhaps it's not school that "****************s", but your attitude. Without school you would not have an education, without an education you would not be knowledgable, without knowledge you would not have skills, without skills you don't get a job. Find teachers and other resources in your school to get you in a place where you can begin to enjoy some aspects of school. Good luck!

Default starters

I've used one minute mysteries. It forces the kids to "wake up" and pay attention to the clues. The first to solve the mystery recieves some type of reward (early out to next class/recess, "class bux", etc).
