Old Man and the Sea

I am teaching Old Man and the Sea to ninth graders and I am looking for some more exciting, interesting first- or second-day lessons to get the kids interested in the literature. Any ideas?

Hi -
you might try exploring the science side of this story. Remember, this takes place before sea turtles were considered an endangered species.
This link has a lesson plan that uses this concept, as well as a little of the baseball side of things. Hope it helps!
